Unlocking New Innovation Value through Collaborations

I believe that innovation ecosystems transform how we approach and manage innovation. The value is in developing them out and here is why

By embracing the power of ecosystems, we can tap into the collective intelligence and resources of diverse partners, leading to breakthrough solutions and sustained growth. This document will explore the key aspects of innovation ecosystems and their value proposition.

  1. Opening up our thinking toward ecosystems has a powerful effect: As we shift our mindset to embrace ecosystems, we experience a profound shift in our perspectives. Engaging different partners fosters emergent thinking and evolves our approach to managing relationships within these ecosystems.
  2. Increased interactions and tightly controlled activities drive synergies: Ecosystem designs require enhanced interactions within the community. Activities within the ecosystem need to be tightly controlled to unlock the synergistic effects. Effective relationship management becomes crucial in driving innovation and adapting to the evolving ecosystem concept.
  3. Agility and strong orchestration are essential for new business models: Ecosystems that give rise to new business models require a high capacity for agility within participating organizations. The dynamics of these ecosystems stretch internal capabilities and competencies. A strong orchestrator is needed to manage the challenges and cultural biases that can hinder progress.
  4. Aligning partners based on needs rather than organizational priorities: Aligning partners within an ecosystem is different from aligning them solely to one organization’s needs. In the past, we adapted to the requirements of dominant organizations. In an ecosystem, partners align based on the platform’s needs, requiring a shift in perspective and a collaborative approach.
  5. Nurturing the health of the ecosystem: The health of an ecosystem depends on three fundamental aspects: a. Recognizing the value each participant brings to the ecosystem, even if their values differ. b. Achieving critical mass within the ecosystem enhances robustness and maximizes combined effects. c. Fostering continuous performance and improvement through joint learning, leading to optimization effects and increased relevance.
  6. Assessing partners’ capabilities and managing strategic questions: Assessing partners’ ability to deliver their commitments is crucial, as it is often an unknown factor. Strategic questions need to be addressed, such as measuring the offering’s value within the ecosystem, understanding dependencies, managing risk, and estimating the timing for adoption.
  7. The value of collaboration in tackling complex challenges: Innovation ecosystems offer significant benefits when addressing complex challenges that no single organization can solve alone. By fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and discovery, these ecosystems enable the development of innovative solutions that leverage diverse expertise.
  8. The power of digital platforms and ecosystem design: Digital platforms play a central role in enabling collaborative environments within innovation ecosystems. Ecosystem design relies on building networks and relationships around valuable focal points, allowing for continuous interactions, knowledge sharing, and co-creation.
  9. Benefits of innovation ecosystems: Participating in innovation ecosystems offers several advantages, including a. Access to a broader range of resources and expertise. b. Increased collaborations and co-creation opportunities. c. Scalability and speed in innovation efforts. d. Flexibility and adaptability in response to market changes. e. Potential for sustainability and social impact.

Conclusion:

Innovation ecosystems provide a powerful framework for driving collaborative innovation and unlocking new value. By embracing these ecosystems, organizations can tap into the collective intelligence, resources, and diverse perspectives necessary to tackle complex challenges, achieve sustainable growth, and make a lasting impact.

Through digital platforms and strategic partnerships, we can shape the future of innovation and create a more connected and prosperous world.

The difficulties of adoption for the business platform

The adoption process

I want to relate adoption back to business platforms and anchor it in the process.

Today business platform adoption is a struggle. It needs a clear revisiting of the theory of diffusion and adoption to extract the relevant points of necessary practice.

What is vitally needed is the recognition that deciding on adopting a business platform approach has five stages or decision points to go through.

So often, platform providers automatically go to the assumption that their platform will be adopted. It simply will not without working through and gaining confirmation the five stages of adoption are clarified.

Exploring points of value in adopting Business Platforms.

Business Platforms provide the backbone of the Network.

Today we are still caught up in the validation and relevance of managing a business through platform thinking by making the business case of its value and impact. We should not be; it is time for you to hop onto the train.

The ability to present a compelling business case for the use and application of platforms is overwhelming. I think I have well over 100 plus arguments for their use, value, impact and application.

For me, platforms are needed as we face a very different economic landscape.

We need to choose where to focus in the future, where to concentrate our resources and attempt to bridge the fragmentation that is occurring. The world of collaboration, where we can find partners to share and reinforce what we do, is leading to new dynamics of combining.

Platforms are more viable and relevant.

Platforms allow you the opportunity to innovate in very different ways. They can add value through collaborations that can add more to the internal efficiency options through learning and sharing. Platforms help manage the difficulties of transitions we are all undergoing and change how we see the world through a broader collaborative set of lenses. Continue reading

Siemens Xcelerator- part three- how it does it and why.

Siemens Xcelerator Launch with Roland Busch, President and CEO of Siemens AGA Series of Posts exploring the what, why and how of Siemens Xcelerator- part three- how it does it and why.

A three part series of posts exploring the what, why and how of Siemens Xcelerator- this is part three– how it does it and why.

This post is about “how Siemens Xcelerator does it and why,” from my perspective.

The real key here is the open connections between solutions and all engaged parties in the interactions and transactions.

In three separate posts, I have been exploring the Siemens Xcelerator, a open digital business platform, firstly what it is, secondly, what it does and thirdly, this post, how it does it and why.

These three posts are “looking into” Siemens. I am looking from the outside to see the value of this launch announcement of the Siemens Xcelerator Digital Business Platform. The launch proposal offers much.

The first two posts I recommend reading to provide context to this one. To read this FULL POST go here as I only offer an introduction.

What, why and how of the need for a B2B Digital Business Platform

The evolution of platforms needs to be thriving business ecosystems that offer a radical change in emphasis for all to collaborate around, share and build together. Achieving this requires an ecosystem mobilization and a platform strategy that delivers open technical and commercial frameworks, has a high ease of use and implementation ethos and looks to provide superior value creation and implementation.

The stated objective for launching this Siemens Xcelerator: “Siemens AG has launched an open digital business platform, Siemens Xcelerator, to accelerate digital transformation and value creation for customers of all sizes in industry, buildings, grids and mobility. The business platform makes the digital transformation easier, faster and scalable.”

It is the rich choice provided in portfolio offering, ecosystem partners and a marketplace selection coming together that are providing the right technology and solutions that provide the robust platform to seek out information, advice, and expertise. This combination effect enables a thriving community that can explore in confidence, have levels of protection and trust and refer to user experiences to evaluate compatibility within their specific operating and business environment.

Siemens Xcelerator Part Two- what it does

A Series of Posts exploring the what, why and how of Siemens Xcelerator- part two

In this series, I felt there is a need for a deepening or exploring of what Xcelerator is all about. What are the implications and value opportunities for customers, distributors, partners, or analysts?

In three separate posts, I aim to explore the Siemens Xcelerator, a new Digital Business Platform, firstly what it is, secondly, what it does -this link is taking you to the full post and thirdly, how it does it and why (yet to come).

These three posts are “looking into” Siemens. I am looking from the outside to see the value of this launch announcement of the Siemens Digital Business Platform. The launch proposal offers much. The first post I recommend reading to provide context to “what Siemens Xcelerator is.”

This post is about “what it does,” from my perspective.

The real key here is the intent to make the digital transformation easier, faster and scalable.

Seeing a future and embracing it

Perhaps it is likely that Siemens recognizes where the future of digital transformation needs to go and sees a better approach to this digital transformation through this launch.

A view reflecting that the digital transformation requires a continuous evolution, fundamentally redefining the business operation and customer experience in highly connected, digital ways across an ecosystem of like-minded solution providers.

Siemens, for me, has signalled that they are moving towards a new business model to take them even further as a focused technology company.

Peter Koerte, the Chief Technology and Strategy Officer at Siemens, recently stated, in a podcast “Xcelerator not only brings all of the critical digitalization components together – the service providers, the software partners and especially the hardware – it also provides both technical governance and interoperable solutions.
